In a bold and inspiring move, Valerie Of Africa embarked on a one-day solo hike up Mount Kilimanjaro through the Marangu Route to Mandara Hut, in celebration of International Girl Child Day on October 11th.
Climbing 2,756 feet above sea level in just one day, Valerie represented strength, courage, and the resilience of the Nigerian woman — setting an example for girls everywhere. Though Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak at 19,341 feet, typically takes 6–7 days to summit, Valerie's symbolic Day 1 hike echoed the beginning of a powerful journey for girls fighting to rise above societal limitations.
Along the trail, she was joined and cheered on by hikers from the USA, UK, and other nations — showing global solidarity for the cause of the girl child.
Her message was clear: "Girls can rise. Girls can climb. Girls can conquer."and her popular slogan #Girlchildcandoit...I believe in mee was a motivational factor for her.
Her zeal for humanity and initiative of empowering Girls and women started many years ago as she is actively involved in an NGO Women youth and Children Upliftment Foundation WYCUT which has been Advocating for Girls and women for the last 25 years with the founder Dr Lilian Ekanem a Nigerian in Diaspora and Jaime fiske of USA are key players and partners in organizing this mountain kilmanjaro hike with support from donors of GoFundMe.
